Nox hotel Galway

, , , , , , , , ,

The lovely people at the Nox hotel Galway contacted me a couple of months to see if I wanted to come and stay for a night. Obviously I said Yes! I do have a bit of love for Galway and seem to go for a visit every year. Last year I was there twice in the space of a month, for my mams birthday and the Connemarathon half marathon. So after trying to work out a date, it was pretty busy couple of months with getting married and Christmas ๐Ÿ˜‚we settled on visiting last weekend.

I didn’t know a huge amount about the Nox Hotel and presumed it was a bit out of the city but actually the location is pretty good. After we checked in when we decided to go into Galway for a look around. We ordered a taxi at reception which arrived in seconds and it was โ‚ฌ7 into Eyre Square. As it was a dry evening (surprisingly since it is January!) We decided to walk back to the hotel, and it only took about 20 minutes strolling.

Where do I start, the food was really good! I am still thinking of my main course ๐Ÿ˜

For starters I went for the chicken wings in cajun spices, and my other half got the Caesar salad.

For mains I went for the Supreme of Chicken, with black pudding & potato terrine (with a sneaky side of chips) and he had steak (love the plate!)

We didn’t opt for dessert and just enjoyed some cocktails ๐Ÿ˜

We also had breakfast the next morning in the hotel, this was a buffet in the bar/restaurant and there was also a breakfast menu you could order off. We stuck to the buffet option, and has some emm coco pops before our fry… We had lovely cappucinos as well, I definitely feel that they can be a bit hit or miss on hotels, either too hot or not enough foam but these were lovely and you can see for yourself.

I loved the hotel decor, not going to lie most of our conversations involved the decor and what we could do with our new house. The hotel is a gorgeous mix of blue, grey, gold and yellow. We are currently decorating our house and every room is pretty much these colours, with a bit of rose gold/copper mixed in.

Entrance to the ladies toilets

Reception seating area

Double Bedroom

Another reception sitting area

The staff in the Nox hotel are all amazing. I am not just saying that because I was invited to stay. Yes we recieved some pretty amazing service but I did observe the staff treating everybody else the same. At the buffet breakfast, I presume a lady had been waiting for some bacon, the waiter found her at her table, gave her bacon directly from the kitchen and checked everybody else was ok (it was pretty busy when we went down but the food was constantly being refilled)

Even the reception desk were great, they booked taxis and had maps of Galway available for everybody.

I will definitely be back for a visit, the location is pretty good. Yes you can go stay in Galway city centre but you will pay a lot more. The food is great, the cocktails are great and the service is brilliant ๐Ÿ™‚

Holos – This is More

, , , , , , , ,

Holos Skincare, based in Co.Wexford recently launched a new range to the brand. I was lucky enough to get to go to the blogger launch and find out about the new products. The This is More range has 3 products in the range:

  1. Multi-Use Plant Oil – โ‚ฌ39.99
  2. Facial and Eye Serum – โ‚ฌ41.99
  3. Get Better Butter – โ‚ฌ37.99

The great thing about these products, they aren’t targeted for one area. They can be used in multiple areas, and I will explain this as I go through each of the products below. I was lucky enough to have been given the 3 products to try and will do a full review after I have tried them for a few weeks.

Multi-Use Plant Oil

This product looks amazing and has multiple uses including, makeup removal, hair oil, body oil and many more uses. It would be brilliant for travelling as one bottle can be used for all the above and more, and it also comes in a 100ml bottle so no issues with carry on luggage for travelling! It contains sweet almond oil, rosehip, calendula and cocunut oils, so it is definitely going to leave your skin feeling soft and clean. Unfortunately I am allergic to almonds, so I won’t get to try this one ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

Facial and Eye Serum

Now that I am in my 30’s ๐Ÿ˜ฆ I definitely have become more conscious of lines around my eyes and I have gotten into a nightly routine of using eye creams. Normally from my experience most products for your face can’t be used around the eyes, as the skin is very sensitive in that area and also heavy products designed for your face aren’t gentle enough for the eye area. This contains hyaluronic acid, the new go to product for skincare :). 1 gramme of hyaluronic acid holds up to 6 litres of water, which is takes from its environment and absorbs into the skin. What I didn’t know though was if you are in a dry, air-conditioned environment it will pull this into your skin so try to have a window opened to ensure some moisture is coming into the room. This can also be used for scar tissue and dry patches, I know definitely get some dry patches during the winter. I can’t wait to try this product out and I will let you know how I get on ๐Ÿ™‚

Get Better Butter

Another brilliant travel product, again in a 100ml container so fine for carry on, is the Get Better Butter. It is a buttery cream that can be used on your face, hands and more so along with the Multi-Use Plant Oil you would have two products that cover all the cleansing and moisturising that I can think of. This product contains Organic Shea & Cocoa butters and smells amazing! It also says that it can be used for Eczema & Psoriasis. I have suffered with my elbows over the past few years when on holidays in the sun, I get small blisters on my elbows, which when I return home my elbows go really dry. So after our mini honeymoon at the start of the moment I am suffering a little bit and will be trying this out on my elbows.

Buff Day Spa – Dublinย

, , , , , , , ,

A few weeks back I was invited to an open evening in Buff Day Spa. For any of you who don’t know the Buff Day Spa it is located on King Street, Dublin 2 (not far from Zara ๐Ÿ˜).

I couldn’t believe how big the spa was! It seemed to go on forever when I was going around on the tour, but my favourite part..the quietness. Considering it is just off Grafton St and on a pretty busy street you couldn’t hear anything. It swas quiet, and relaxing and strangely it felt more relaxing as you know you are so close to crowds of people.

Whilst I was there they did a few different treatments. I had a look at laser hair removal being done, something I have always considered so I really wanted to see what it was like. They have a new method of doing it, Super Hair Removal.

They also do micro needling and they demonstrated this on the night. Numbing cream is applied and you are left for 20mins for this to take effect. The face was then cleansed and a micro needle roller was used on the face. For anybody squeamish there is some blood… they then used an Image mask on the face for the skin to absorb. The idea of micro needling is that it is a controlled injury, so the skin then tries to repair itself. After the treatment the skin will be red and require a few days to relax and repair itself, makeup is not reccomended.

I am not going to lie, I don’t think this is a treatment for me. I met a few girls there who had the treatment before and raved about it and you could see the difference in their skin from it. I am a bit of a chicken and the micro needle roller scares me, but don’t let me put you off it definitely look into if you are interested in it!

They gave us shots of the Image Collagen Shot to try, it actually tasted pretty good ๐Ÿ˜€

Buff Day Spa also do other facials and treatments, if your treatment costs more than โ‚ฌ50 you can arrive an hour early and use the relaxation room and sauna, go on spoil yourself ๐Ÿ˜, I know I will!

The Salon at The Shelbourne

, , , , , , , ,

So a few weeks ago, I went to The Salon in The Shelbourne to get my nails filed and painted for my birthday. I was at a wedding fayre evening a few months back in the Shelbourne and couldn’t believe their prices (in a good way ๐Ÿ˜…) so I decided to make an appointment and see how it was.

From the moment you walk in the door you are treated amazingly. My coat was taken and put away, I didn’t have to sit around waiting for my appointment. I was brought straight in and got to the business of picking a colour. I went for Peach Daiquiri by Essie

The colour is really hard to photograph but I wanted something summery. The girl doing my nails was friendly and we chatted away and she had them done in no time!.

Once she was finished she offered my tea, coffee, water or macaroons while I was waiting for my nails to dry. The bit I haven’t said yet this only cost me โ‚ฌ15! I know some people might think this is expensive but compared to what I have paid around Dublin City for a file and paint this is pretty good. So far I have paid โ‚ฌ10-โ‚ฌ20 and the salon that cost โ‚ฌ20 wasn’t a great experience.

My pretty nails again ๐Ÿ˜€

Here is a link to The Salons page with details of prices and packages (and a โ‚ฌ20 blowdry!) Click here.

I was not paid or asked to promote The Salon, I booked and paid for my own appointment and wanted to share the experience with everybody.

Want some space in New York?ย

, , , , , , , ,

One thing that most people will agree on, is that hotel rooms in Manhattan are tiny! Unless you are super rich and can afford a suite, the rest of us spend our time walking into everything in the room trying to get around. Don’t start me on the extra furniture they put in the already cramped room, ‘no I don’t need a desk or a bench to put my suitcase on’. I need space to hide my suitcase and put all my shopping ๐Ÿ˜†๐Ÿ˜†.

After being in New York twice this year (not sure how that happened, well I love the place) we decided Times Square was not the location for us and went downtown. We stayed in the Q and A residential hotel just off Wall street and couldn’t believe the room we got. We did upgrade to a bigger room but at a cost of an extra โ‚ฌ7 a night for an extra 200 square foot, we didn’t think twice. The room was huge and very well laid out with the best of items.

The above picture doesn’t even show the full size of the room, I was about 5foot away from the wall (also should have taken the picture before we put our stuff everywhere!).

Inside the door was a cute blackboard, a great place to say thanks to the brilliant cleaners who left the room spotless everyday.

The kitchen was fully stocked with everything you would need (tableware etc) and you could also order groceries online and takeaway ๐Ÿ˜. There was also a little section beside the seating area that had cocktail glasses and a cocktail shaker.

It was also nice to have wifi in the room and this is not an extra charge. The smart tv in the room also meant you got to keep updated on Youtube and Netflix, when the feet gave up on walking ๐Ÿ˜….

Breakfast is also included and is available until 10am every morning. There is a selection of tea, coffee (good coffee ๐Ÿ˜) muffins, croissants and fruit. Definitely enough to keep you going for the week.

The staff at reception are very friendly, give you loads of details on the local area. They also go out of their way to answer any questions that you may have.

The reception area is beautiful, the building was once the third tallest building in the world!!

They also have a few different room sizes and do a two bedroom apartment, great idea for groups going together!
Any questions let me know ๐Ÿ˜€

Karora Express Bronzing Mousse

, , , , , , ,

A few weeks back Karora sent me some of their products to try. I first heard about Karora tan at my first blogger event last year. An Irish company that started off driving around Ireland and now has an office in America.

I am lucky enough to tan during the summer and then I am the lovely pale of white during the winter that I can’t deal with and this is when the tan comes out!
I tried the Karora Express Bronze Mousse a few times before doing this review. The mousse is a watery texture with a hint of purple in it. It is very easy to apply as the mousse is a light texture. The purple tint lets you know you have applied it to an area. Don’t worry it doesn’t stay purple! Nobody wants to go around looking like Violet from Charlie and the chocolate factory ๐Ÿ˜….

How did I get on?

The first time I tried the tan I left it on for 3 hours. The instructions on the packet say 1 hour for a light glow, 2 hours a deeper colour, and 3 hours a rich dark brown. The colour was good, but not  dark enough for me. So I did what I always do with 3 hour tans, left it on overnight and the colour was gorgeous.

Any dark tan, disasters?
Now I am not going to lie my hands were a disaster, but that was my own fault. My hands are very dry from the cold weather so I should have done a lot more prep! Any other time I used this tan my hands were fine. One thing I definitely love about this tan is I didn’t get the extra dark elbows.

So how did the tan wash off?

The tan came off very naturally. I had no build up of dirty looking tan anywhere, I didn’t have to scrub it off. It just seemed to get lighter everytime I showered.

Will I use the tan again?

I will definitely use this tan again. It also smells quit sweet ๐Ÿ˜€

Hope you enjoyed the review.

Christmas at Dealz

, , , , , , ,

A few weeks back I went to the Dealz Christmas event and they had some gorgeous gifts and decorations and all for โ‚ฌ1.50! Apologies in advance for this post, I love Christmas and I will keep saying how gorgeous everything is ha ha. The event took place in early in October but I did my best to hold out this post until most people were interested in Christmas ๐Ÿ™‚

They decorated a few room styles in different colours, golds and silver/blue.

They have all this tableware for only โ‚ฌ1.50 each, and they are dishwasher and microwave safe.

How cute are these cushions and gift bags?

Dealz also have their own sweet range, they also do branded sweets and these do sell for more than โ‚ฌ1.50 but they are still at a great price. They also had some cute homeware pieces that can be used all year.

Everything should be in store now, I will be stocking up especially on the tableware and cushions!

Easilock Launch Eventย

, , , , , , , , ,

I was recently at the Easilock launch event in the Cliff Townhouse in Dublin. The venue was gorgeous and I definitely need to go try it for dinner! Easilock hair extensions are now available in pharmacies around Ireland and I got to see some of the samples at the event. It is made from a fibre hair technology and is heat resistant so can by styled very easily. At the event you could get the hair extensions put into your hair and it looked very easy!

I didn’t try them out as to be honest I have pretty thick head of hair and extra hair is definitely not a good idea. Everytime I go to the hairdressers’ they always comment on how much hair I have and how light it feels after a cut! There was a few things from Easilocks that I was very interested in, the celebrity range includes pieces to style your hair. I love the braid people have in their hair and Easilock do a braid headband that just sits in your hair!!

Easilocks celebrity range

They also launched a homecare range for the extensions that can also be used in your natural hair. Shane O’Sullivan says that you should be buying a shampoo that looks after your scalp, something I never even thought of. I will buy creams for my face to keep my skin hydrated and (hopefully) younger looking but when it comes to my hair I buy whatever is on special offer in the supermarket. The Easilock homecare range includes shampoo and conditioner both of which are free from silicones, sulphates and parabens.

I definitely think I will be investing and doing some research into was is best for my scalp and hair. I have noticed over the past few months my hair seems in a worse condition than normal and never looks great. I was blaming the weather but maybe it is the products I am using?

New’s all about the food..

, , , , , , , , , , ,

New York is an amazing city with loads to do and see and of course eat. After our visit in April I have put together a list of a few of the places we had food in.

1. Ruths Chris

A steakhouse near Times Square, pretty sure reservations are needed. It is a dressy place so definitely dress up. It is pretty expensive (steaks are aboit $50-$60 with no sides) but they do a great set menu for $55 and you get a 3 course meal and a side with your steak. Food was pretty good and steaks are still sizzling when they arrive at your table.

I got the caeser salad to start, I am always afraid to get too heavy of a starter before steak.

For mains, obviously a steak! I got creamed spinach as a side, not a fan๐Ÿ˜ (it wasn’t this particular one that was bad just my first time trying it)

For dessert I got a chocolate coffee tart, it was pretty good and I am not a fan of chocolate cakes

I would definitely give this place a 10/10 food and service was great.

2. Guys Kitchen

Ever watched Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives? I am always starving after watching that show so when I found out Guy Fieri had a restaurant on Times Square we had to go. We imagined it would be crazy busy and booked online but when we got there it was pretty quiet (which was nice after walking through crazy Times Square). The waiter recommended the burger so I ordered it and it was huge, a layer of mac and cheese on the burger!

The burger was nice, not as great as I was expecting from watching the show. The waiter was very friendly but our mains did arrive when we were still eating our starters and on a small table it got cramped very quickly.

Probably wouldn’t go back it was nice but there is plenty of choice around, 6/10 as the food was nice but just a let down from what I was expecting.

3. Juniors Cheesecake.

I was excited about going here as I had heard some really good things about it. It was ok, I think we went on a Saturday night and it was crazy busy. They were pretty quick at getting us a table so fair play on that. The food was good but we had to wait a long time for it, not really sure what happened but people beside us who ordered the same time as us had eaten and paid before we got our food. However the waiter was did apologise for the wait. I got the pulled pork and my boyfriend got the southern fried chicken.

The portions are huge and the food was nice but I don’t think I would go back. It was a bit of a hectic atmosphere and didn’t feel like you could relax and enjoy yourself. Most of the tables people were leaving probably withing 30 minutes of sitting down. Also no cocktail menu! They make any cocktail you want but don’t do menus for them, I like to look and decide on what looks good ๐Ÿ˜ข Also we did try the cheesecake and it was nice but never took a picture ๐Ÿ™ˆ

Overall a 5/10, atmosphere brought this place way down for me.

4. Chelsea Markets

Leaving my favourite until the end ๐Ÿ˜. Chelsea Markets is located in the Meat packing district and is an old large building. When you go in there are loads of counters and stores selling food, clothes, anything really, there are also designer sale pop up shops. The food is great, there is an amazing counter that sells tacos ๐Ÿ˜ Los Tacos, and they are only about $4 each. I am not the only one who thinks it since this place is 14th of 10007 restaurants in New York on TripAdvisor!

Also I found a doughnut stand, they make them fresh as your ordering and you can pick what you want them dipped in ๐Ÿ˜ definitely worth visiting the doughnutery.

Chelsea Markets get a full 10/10 from me ๐Ÿ˜€

Has anybody got any suggestions for restaurants in New York heading back in 2 months and can’t wait!!
